The Nike Air Tuned Max “Celery” is an April 20201 re-release of the performance running sneaker by Nike that debuted all the way back in 1999. The Air Tuned Max may have spent over two decades in the vault between releases, but it had a noteworthy impact on the design of Skepta’s Nike Air Max 97 collaboration when the UK Grime artist referenced the “Celery’s” futuristic colorway on the look of his debut Nike shoe. Consistent with the original model from 1999, the retro version of the Air Tuned Max features a black mesh upper with contrasting iridescent panels. At the time of its first release, the Air Tuned Max held the unique distinction of being Nike’s lightest-ever Air Max shoe, weighing roughly 11.9 ounces. Its lightweight build is due in part to the design of the full-length visible Air unit in the Phylon midsole. Release date: April 3, 2021.
