The Comme des Garcons x Nike Waffle Racer “Black” is a February 2021 collaboration between the storied high fashion house and Nike on the pioneering running shoe. The Nike Waffle Racer was a favorite of the long distance running crowd during the early ‘70s, and has enjoyed a second run in the spotlight as part of several notable collaborations between Nike and upscale fashion brands. Here, Comme des Garcons adds a moody “do-it-yourself” aesthetic to the Waffle Racer by dressing the sleek model in a black monochromatic colorway, save for the white “CDG” branding printed on the back of the shoe. The rest of the design, including the toe, mid-panel, and heel are constructed of a hard-wearing denim material that looks better with age. The frayed edges of the Swoosh branding on either side adds to the “DIY” vibe. White “Nike” detailing is printed on the branding tag on the black nylon tongue. The waffle rubber outsole finishes off the look of this timeless silhouette. Release date: February 27, 2021.
