The WTAPS x New Balance 992 is a May 2020 collaboration between the Japanese streetwear brand and New Balance that puts a military-inspired spin on the retro performance running shoe. The 992’s popularity exploded in 2020 on the backing of several high-profile collaborations between New Balance and streetwear brands like WTAPS and creative outlets like JJJJound. Here, on the WTAPS-designed 992, grey suede overlays appear layered over the upper’s tonal mesh base. A silver reflective “N” logo can be found on both sides and dual “New Balance” and “WTAPS” branding are embroidered on the grey tongue. Additional “992” and “WTAPS” branding can be found on the back of the shoe. The reflective leather overlays on the forefoot and collar shine when exposed to light in the dark. WTAPS and New Balance finish off the mudguard in a buttery olive green suede construction. A hi-vis orange panel appears on the forefoot of the chunky, two-tone white and grey midsole.
